I never asked to be a healer. For most of my young life I was so busy trying to work out how to fix myself, that aside from tea and sympathy, I didn’t feel I had any extra energy to give to healing others. That was before I realized that healing is something we all learn to do in different ways. My healing journey started in the church with hands-on-prayer and outreach mission to India. Emotional healings I could wrap my head around, but when physical healings occurred, I knew there was something new going on! In these scenarios I acknowledged that the healing came straight from God. I was the conduit, like a cardboard tube.
I pretty much embodied that cardboard tube until I came into contact with the teachings of Dr Usui and Reiki. Here was a system that taught me how to heal myself and others by connection to and channeling of the Divine or Source energy available to all of us. My tired Self still struggled to reap the benefits of this fully until I developed a regular meditation practice. Reiki was a bandaid up to that point! As I moved beyond Reiki 3 towards Masters I began to get a grasp on the fact that this charging of our cells from Source is the first and most important step. Then we have a sustainable supply of healing to offer others.
Reiki is by no means the only healing system. Healing predates the development of the Reiki system by many years. The Jewish Rabbis healed as a matter of course back in the day when Jesus was walking the earth for his brief 33 years. Buddhists heal, Gurus heal, Herbalists heal, Shamans have healed since the dawn of time. The important thing to remember when you embark on a healing road is that it is not whether or not you have the talent or ability (you do), but how this healing power that arises from your connection to Source or Spirit is best expressed through your current incarnation. My healing practice develops year on year and tends these days towards the Shamanic. Why explore healing? Well, I doubt there are any of us who couldn’t use some healing energy in our lives. When we start to connect to that we may well find that the energy of this divine nourishment cannot help but overflow to those around us in the most beautiful ways.
